The position of the Store Manager is one that holds vast duties and tremendous responsibilities. The Store Manager should be thorough with all the company policies and procedures for running the store and have a hard copy for reference with him/her at all times.
Familiarity with systems and reports:
• It is vital for the store manager to be intimately familiar with the retail software implemented in the store and use the various reports to run the store smoothly
• Sales and stocks reports, best and worst sellers, location wise quantities of stocks, price changes, inventory ageing etc are some of the modules that are a must for the store manager to know
• Should have a good aptitude for numbers
• Well versed in MS Excel and MS Word in order to compose all the reports, tables, graphs, documents etc
Visual Display:
• Pay attention to the store windows frequently to ensure the windows are enticing enough for the customers
• Make sure the windows are always looking clean and fresh and neat. There should be no dirt on the glass, the lighting should be proer and the display must be in accordance with the current trends and visual principles of the brand
• The new launch items should be displayed in the proper area with appropriate ticketing
• A4s for great value, price points, last of the great sellers etc should always be visible on the floor
• Communicate with visuals team regularly and monitor the sales of the items displayed on hotspots
Inventory:
• Check the inventory periodically to make sure the correct goods are in at the correct time
• Handling pricing changes, damaged and waste products, cosmetic testers
• Handling discrepancy in the physical and system count of stocks
• Controlling the shrinkage and ensuring it doesn’t exceed 0.25% of the landed cost
• Conducting the ageing analysis, clearing the non moving stock and thereby maintaining the stock accuracy
Sales
• Increase the existing volume of sales to the maximum achievable.
• Increase the Average Items per Customer (AIC).
• Identifying the Key Hot Spot and taking measures to enhance the sales from these earmarked spots.
Customer Service
• Understand customer care and ensure the staff is providing excellent customer service to all customers coming in to the store
• Communicate regularly with customers entering the store to understand market trends, buying patterns, suggestions/complaints etc
• Obtain knowledge of products and demonstrate selling skills.
• Improve Customer Focus.
Store and Team Management
• Monitor all areas of store operations and take appropriate action to ensure company standards are maintained.
• Coach/develop store teams/staff to achieve continuous improvement in operations performance.
• Identify and eliminate wasteful practices and non value added processes.
• Encourage and develop new ideas while being receptive to those given by the store teams/staff.
• Staff Scheduling/Attendance Discipline/Generation and Analysis of monthly reports.
• Performance management, analysis and continuous monitoring of performance of the staff.
• Periodic performance counseling
• Ensure effective planning of seasonal events.
• Staff is scheduled within the budget (breaks/overtimes etc).
• Assist in providing customer service on the sales floor during trade hours..
• Assist in locking up/opening of store.
• Attend and contribute at management meetings.
• Management of expenses and wasteful practices.
Security
• The store manager will be responsible for the security of all types of asset (cash, merchandise, fixtures etc) in the Store. Invalid explanation for any of the losses and damages can lead to compensation for the above mentioned assets.
• Implement and monitor strict control procedures in order to avoid shrinkage and to maintain efficient security in the Store.
